Sites for English Language Learning

Activities for ESL Students
This site has a great range of grammar quizzes, vocabulary quizzes, and bilingual quizzes in many different languages. It does not offer explanation or instruction, so it is best used to review concepts that have already been presented.

Adult Learning Activities
Published by the California Distance Learning Project, this site includes articles appropriate for intermediate to advanced English Language Learners on a variety of topics. Each article includes activities to reinforce new vocabulary.

English, baby!
This is a good site for advanced English language learners who want to learn idioms and enjoy popular culture. Every day there is a new English lesson featured.

Interesting Things for ESL Students
A variety of games that help reinforce vocabulary and grammar concepts.

Pumarosa
A site for beginning and intermediate Spanish-speakers. Instruction and grammar explanations are provided in Spanish, and audio pronunciation is available.

Randall’s ESL Cyber Listening Lab
Audio dialogues of real-life situations with comprehension activities for before and after listening.

Vocabulary Can Be Fun!
This site has a number of different games, including crosswords, hangman, and word search. My favorite for teaching (rather than practicing) simple vocabulary is the Match Game.
